Positivism and negativism take the same amount of energy: the only difference is that being positive keeps the healthy energy flowing. I look at negative attitudes and people like viruses: I avoid and wash my hands after contact! Like a virus, negative energy spreads quickly and has a horrible outcome. When confronted by something negative I find that if I stay focused on a positive solution, amazingly positive outcomes follow.
It is so easy to get caught up in a downward spiral when something seems hard, not fun, or frustrating. If you can just manage a slight shift in consciousness and decide not to engage the negative elements but to heighten the positive ones, the whole ordeal can go from something terrible to something pleasant fairly quickly!
Laughter is key to staying positive. Laugh at least once a day–and I mean real belly laughing–and you will find that it not only relieves so much pressure, it also breeds more laughter throughout your day, week, month, year. The most joyful people I have ever encountered have laughter that comes easily, their kids are more gentle and their worlds seem less stressed (and even if they are not, at least they do not walk around like they are bearing the weight of the world).
Movement is another key to keeping the positive pulse going. When negative stress starts creeping in, get your iPod, put on your favorite song, and dance, dance, dance! Or open your front door and walk around your house 10 times, or go up and down your stairs for 10 minutes.
Just move, get the blood flowing, get your body moving, and solutions appear, anger dissipates and the positive energy flows!
